A Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), is a person who has a trait of sensitivity that has been extensively researched by psychologists since the 1990s. HSPs tend to feel deeply which leads to more empathy and more overstimulation. HSPs process more information than non-HSPs which can lead to a deeper intuition, deeper emotional experiences, and more attention to detail. All of this can also lead to feeling very overwhelmed due to the fact that less is getting filtered out. HSPs are individuals who have a heightened sensitivity to their surroundings and emotions. They tend to experience things more intensely and deeply than others. Common traits of HSPs include being more emotionally responsive, easily overwhelmed by sensory input, and having a strong awareness of subtleties in their environment. It’s important to note that being highly sensitive is not a disorder but rather a personality trait. HSPs may benefit from strategies to manage their sensitivity and create environments that support their unique needs.
